Morelli's Serves Up Super Gelato By Susn Soper
Donald and Clarissa Sargent – world citizens who have lived in New York City, Brazil, Miami and Tampa – have opened Morelli’s in the former Bruster’s location in Ormewood.
Donald’s ice cream career was launched in a shop while he was in high school in Tampa. He majored in restaurant management at Florida International University, did a stint in pharmaceutical sales and studied under Malcolm Stogo, the guru of ice crea, at Ice Cream University.
Donald says what sets Morelli’s ice creams – he calls them American gelatos – apart is fresh cream from the local Greenwood Dairy and everything "real" – strawberries, organic mint leaves, coconut and even sweet corn. They also make French crepes with ice cream on top; the flavors range from Bordeaux Cherry Chocolate, Coconut Jalapena, Dulce de Lechee, Margarita Sorbet (the office favorite by far) and Almond Coconut Joy.
