Bound South ($14.99, Touchstone/Simon & Schuster) By turns hilarious and poignant, the lives of three vibrant and unique Southern women -- a proper Atlanta matron, her rebellious teenage daughter, and their housekeeper's young daughter -- intersect in unexpected and extraordinary ways in this richly compelling debut novel of family, friendship, and folly.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett ($24.95, Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam) A young white woman returns to her hometown in Mississippi at the beginning of the 1960s Civil Rights movement and begins documenting the treatment of African-Americans, including two of the black women who work for her family. The book she puts together outrages the racially divided town. Stockett's debut is already earning praise from reviewers.
