NEW BUSINESS

   Soda Salon focusing on hair, skin and art has opened a Grant Park location. Much like the original location in Roswell, the salon includes an art gallery and event space in the 2,000-square-foot location. Styling stations feature video screens and wraparound leather chairs. There are implants for all kinds of things and now even for snoring. Humana Inc. presented a one-time $100,000 grant to Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit citizens group dedicated to protecting Atlanta’s urban environment by planting and conserving trees. The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) has been awarded a $10,000 grant – its first – from the Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) is a presentation of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Jewish Committee, the country’s oldest human relations organization. Cooper Music is ending its 100th year in business on an up note: an increase of 37 percent in upright piano sales. Sales of new and used pianos were also up, but it was rentals for events – weddings, conventions, etc. – that were up 70 percent. The Junior League of Atlanta is celebrating 90 years of community service – through volunteer activities and fundraising for nonprofits – and its nine partner agencies in the community. The anniversary celebration this fall was held at The Foundry at Puritan Mill, the proceeds of which will support projects and programs at over 80 community organizations. From the Atlanta Speech School to the High Museum of Art and Grady Hospital, the League’s women have had significant impact on more than 80 organizations.
