Atlanta Lyric Theatre's New Season, Gala
The Atlanta Lyric Theatre, celebrating its 28th season as Atlanta’s only local musical theatre company, will hold its annual black tie gala, Life is a Cabaret, on October 13, in The Sheraton Downtown Atlanta’s Grand Ballroom.
Co-Chairing this year’s event are Susan McCaffrey and former Lyric Theatre Executive Director, Dan Britt. The 2007 gala promises to be an unforgettable extravaganza of musical entertainment with over fifty musicians, singers and dancers performing excerpts from The Lyric’s upcoming season... "Little Shop of Horrors," "1940's Radio Hour," "Forever Plaid," "Peter Pan," "Some Enchanted Evening" and Cole Porter’s "Anything Goes."
Coordinating this large array of Atlanta talent will be well known producer/director Robert Ray who has organized entertainments to benefit UNICEF, The National Black Arts Festival, Meals on Wheels, The Alliance Theater, Center for the Puppetry Arts and who recently produced the "75th Anniversary of The Fox Theatre", which drew a record crowd of over 12,000 people in one day.
In addition to the extraordinary performances, the auction is sure to delight even the most discerning of patrons. With experiences such as: a gourmet dinner and wine party for thirty highlighted by a private performance at the Byer’s Studio, a private performance at your home or office, and, for those destined to be on the stage but who never made it to Broadway, a chance to make a guest appearance in one of the upcoming shows.
In addition, a five package raffle will include gift certificates to some of Atlanta’s best restaurants, a specialty wine grouping, and popular sports tickets.
According to Atlanta Lyric Board President, Brenda Smith, along with the entertainment, the high point of the evening will certainly be the "passing of the baton" from former Lyric Artistic Director, J. Lynn Thompson to Brandt Blocker, an award winning Producer/Director from New Orleans who has recently come on board as both Artistic Director and General Manager of The Lyric.
