Skateboard art on sale at MODA

Submitted by collin on Monday, 22 October 2012No Comment

Many visitors who toured the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) since the June opening of Skate It or Hang It!? The Evolution of Skateboard Art found that they had a very personal connection with the show. Now you can own some of the art.

On October 28, between 2 and 5 p.m., MODA will offer fans the opportunity to purchase select works that were part of the exhibition at Skate / Art Sale. There will 160-plus skateboard decks or art on sale by artists like Wes Humpston, Steve Olson, Lance Mountain, Michael Sieben, and Charlie Owens. Artworks and some skate decks will be sold by silent auction while others skate decks will have set prices. Admission is free.

MODA will also host a special open studio session led by Trek Matthews during Drink in Design on Thursday, October 25, between 6  and 8 p.m. Matthews is a young illustrator, public artist and urbanist who explores multiple mediums of contemporary art and how they can influence modern culture.

During the evening, Trek will explore three forms of urban art – graffiti; street art; publicly sanctioned art – and the complex relationships between them. He will also share select images and discuss how the implementation of urban art can transcend the barrier between public and gallery space and transform an area aesthetically and culturally.

Following the informal talk, Trek will lead patrons in further discussion and sketching exercises during an open studio session. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. For more details, visit www.museumofdesign.org.
