Atlanta Pride, Oakhurst Festival & more on tap
This weekend is one of the busiest of the season, with thousands descending on Atlanta for the annual LGBT Pride celebration, Oakhurst Arts & Music Festival, Candler Park Festival and Morningside Mile and Block Party.
The 2012 Atlanta Pride event takes over Piedmont Park this weekend and other local venues for parties, music, literary events and the big Pride Parade on Sunday afternoon. More than 50 local artists selling their works, six bands, a 5K run and neighborhood parade are all part of the 2012 Oakhurst Arts & Music Festival on Saturday, October 13. The festival is a free, family-friendly event. .This year’s music lineup features: Oakhurst Community Music Collective, In the Wheelhouse, Sehwe Village Percussion, The BooHoo Ramblers and the Swamp Funk Quartet. The second annual Atlanta Mattress 500 takes place on Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at Atlantic Station as a fun and wacky fundraiser for the Furniture Bank of Metro-Atlanta. Contestants race beds to help raise funds help kids, moms, veterans, and the elderly. Come out and cheer on the contestants and consider making a donation, too. furniturebankatlanta.org
