The cranes over the long-dormant Buckhead Atlanta project swung into action this morning as OliverMcMillan re-started construction after a three year hiatus.

Buckhead Atlanta will rise on the site of Buckhead Village, which used to be the center of Atlanta’s nightlife filled with bars, clubs and restaurants. Originally conceived as the Streets of Buckhead by developer Ben Carter, the project fell victim to the country’s economic crisis before being bought by California-based OliverMcMillan in early 2011.

The plan for the 8-acre Buckhead Atlanta calls for “urban residential,” retail and restaurants.  The completed project will offer 300,000 square feet of upscale retail stores, restaurants and cafes, over 100,000 square feet of office space and 370 luxury high-rise residences. Buckhead Atlanta will total around 1.5 million square feet. French fashion house Hermès will be one of the first retailers to open, according to officials.
