The Oakhurst Community Garden Project has a new name: Wylde Center. The change was made to honor the late Sally Wylde, who founded the garden 15 years ago.

“We are ‘Wylde’ about our new branding, and we know it captures the heart of our organization – and our founder – more carefully and thoughtfully,” said executive director Stephanie Van Parys. “Sally’s leadership and vision inspired many of us with her creative spirit, community enthusiasm, and tireless dedication to the planet and the health of children. It means so much to be able to share her story this way, and continue the good work that she started in 1997.”

For the last 15 years, the Wylde Center has engaged youth, families, and individuals in their environment and health within communities.  Their organized programs, classes, and events develop creative skills in sustainable urban living, organic gardening, health and nutrition.

The youth program has grown to be one of the largest youth service organizations in the metro-area and provides extensive youth education programs year-round focusing on developing creative skills in organic gardening as well as health and nutrition.  In addition, the two managed garden sites serve as demonstration gardens, gathering spaces, and wildlife habitats.
