Cinco de Mayo, at least the version we celebrate in the U.S., calls to mind images of margaritas and sombreros, but what if the energy of this annual party day could be channeled into something more worthwhile? While, of course, still delivering the promised margaritas.

The Atlanta nonprofit One Love Generation hopes to do just that with their One Love Stache Dash 5K, to be held on May 5. The $25 admission fee includes a T-shirt and a gift card to Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, one of several sponsors. There is a recommended $10 donation on top of this. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to One Love, which empowers underprivileged youth through art. The event, billed as the “First Annual,” hopes to raise money and awareness for One Love, while becoming an entertaining Atlanta tradition.

A pre-party event will be held May 3 from 3-9 p.m. at the Buckhead Tin Lizzy’s for runners to pick up their race numbers and goodie bags.

On Cinco de Mayo, the party starts at 7:30 a.m., and the race at 9 a.m. The route begins and ends at Tin Lizzy’s, circling around Piedmont and Roswell roads. If you are not into running, be prepared to see sombrero-decked runners dancing around Buckhead on this particular morning. It’s for a good cause.

After the race, the party will continue at Tin Lizzy’s, where you will find all the traditional necessities of Cinco de Mayo.
