Elevate/Art Above Underground exhibit now open

Submitted by collin on Monday, 29 August 20112 Comments

Elevate/Art Above Underground, the city’s latest art exhibit located on Upper Alabama Street Corridor, is open to the public through Oct. 30 featuring innovative projects by local, national and international artists. Part of The City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs’ Public Art Program, Elevate/Art Above Underground recognizes the importance of art in our diverse city and highlights the trendy culture of Downtown Atlanta.

Residents, businesspeople and tourists have already seen the art coming to life on the sides of buildings and in the streets of the city. These are all part of an initiative that is bringing public art installations to the streets of Atlanta to stimulate the interest in public art in Atlanta. The assortment of diverse exhibitions ranges from large murals to highly conceptual art with a focus on showcasing local talent.

“We are thrilled to be part of Elevate/Art Above Underground for the next two months as it takes the existing art scene in Downtown Atlanta to a new level while expressing the unique vibe that Underground Atlanta is known for to both locals and tourists,” says Michelle Lawrence, Underground Atlanta Marketing Director.

“The Public Art Program does more than enrich the lives of Atlanta residents, it also brings tourism to the economy Downtown and allows us to continue to showcase Atlanta as one of the nation’s top 10 art destinations among big cities,” says Camille Russell Love, Director, Office of Cultural Affairs.

Leave your wallets at home and catch it while you can; this temporary art exhibit is free to the public but will roll out on October 30, 2011 just as quickly as it came, and if we are lucky some of it will stay!

I’m pretty sure they said that because it’s free. I’ve seen/heard that phrase used in lots of places where a free event was being advertised.
