Sisters of Today & Tomorrow in conjunction with Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History, presents Celebrating Women of Color… Art, Politics & Hip Hop” featuring the Esoteric Lore art exhibit, Georgia State Representative Alisha Thomas-Morgan & The Hip Hop Professional Shanti “Shoe String” Das, during Sisters of Today & Tomorrow’s Women’s History Month kick off reception, Thursday, March 3, 2011, 6pm-8pm, at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, 101 Auburn Ave. Admission is free, (donations accepted to benefit Sisters of Today & Tomorrow.)

Georgia State Rep. Alisha Thomas-Morgan is the author of the book “No Apologies, Powerful Lessons in Life, Love & Politics”. Her book will be featured during Sisters of Today & Tomorrow’s women’s history month book signing series & program, “The Female Political Agenda”, Saturday, March 5, 4pm—6pm, at Auburn Avenue Research Library.

The program and book signing will be hosted by Carla Morrison, Founder & Executive Director of Sisters of Today & Tomorrow, with remarks from Miss. Black Georgia’s Erica-Christina Little and a performance from sister singing duo Chloe & Halle Bailey, including a keynote address by the State Rep who will discuss her book and sign. The program will be catered by Cleveland Style Deli.

Atlanta native/Music industry veteran Shanti “Shoe String” Das is the Author of “The Hip Hop Professional”. Das’ book will be featured the following week, Saturday, March 12, 2011, 4pm-6pm, during Sisters of Today & Tomorrow’s women’s history month book signing series & program, “Her Mic Sounds Nice: The Female Presence in Hip Hop Culture” at the Auburn Avenue Research Library.  This community forum on the role of women in Hip Hop, will be facilitated by SOT member Courtney Britton of Campbell High School, who is a budding music journalist, between Shanti Das and Dr. Stephane Dunn, a professor of hip hop culture at Morehouse College. Actress Yakini Horn will perform a poetry piece and hip hop teen sensation, Teka Boo, will rap. The program will be catered by Mr. Everything’s Café.
