CP_picOn Sunday, Nov 14, Atlanta Film Festival 365 will present a special screening of The Color Purple at The Rialto Center for the Arts to celebrate the film’s 25th Anniversary.  Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film version of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel earned $98 million at the box office and garnered 11 Academy Award nominations. The film earned Whoopi Goldberg a Golden Globe for Best Actress in her film debut, and Spielberg his first Best Director award from the Directors Guild of America. This cinema classic was also the film debut of Oprah Winfrey and continues to resonate with old and new audiences today.

There will be a special pre-screening Q&A session and VIP reception with Willard E. Pugh, who played Harpo, and Margaret Avery, who received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her portrayal of Shug.  VIP Reception is at 6 p.m., Q&A at 7, and screening begins at 7:30.  General admission tickets are $12.50, while VIP tickets are $30.  Atlanta Film Festival 365 members get two free tickets, and discounts on VIP tickets ($20).  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.atlantafilmfestival.com.
