Restaurant Eugene launches author dinner series

Submitted by collin on Monday, 13 September 2010No Comment

ediblebooks_nuvo-798941Chef Linton Hopkins announces the launch of a new dinner series at his flagship Restaurant Eugene.  The series, an exploration of food and the book, called the Eugene Author Dinners will pair the James Beard Nominated Chef with a writer to produce an evening and menu inspired by the Author’s work.  Guests of the chef will enjoy stimulating conversation with celebrated authors, while dining on award-winning cuisine.

The restaurant has announced the first two dinners in the series.  Sept. 28 , with celebrated local author Susan Rebecca White, and Nov. 22, with New York Times Best Selling Author, Mark Kurlansky. White is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Bound South. Born and raised in Atlanta, she spent many years in San Francisco before returning to her hometown, where she teaches creative writing at Emory University.  Her most recent book, A Soft Place to Land, is based on a fictional, yet archetypal Atlanta family.  Hopkins, also a native, will build a four course menu in homage to both his treasured Atlanta food memories and those of White’s fictional family. Guests are invited to share their own stories about Atlanta cuisine.

Kurlansky will sign and read from his most recent novel, Edible Stories, while guests enjoy a menu developed around his substantial and acclaimed food writing, including his books Salt, Cod, and The Big Oyster, as well as his translation of Zola’s The Belly of Paris. Both dinners are four courses, with pairings for $85 per person.  Reservations are required.  Local bookseller A Cappella Books will be on-site to provide an opportunity for book purchase.
