City of Atlanta announces parking changes

The City of Atlanta announced this afternoon a list of changes to parking enforcement following a moratorium prompted by unprecedent complaints from residents, businesses and visitors. For the last month, PARKatlanta On-Street Parking Management Program has not issued citations for expired meters, overtime parking, illegal parking activities, or performed booting and/or towing. Enforcement resumes tonight at midnight, but with a number of significant changes.
- Over the next four days, through Tuesday June 15, warning tickets will issued announcing the end of the moratorium.
- Citywide enforcement of metered areas will occur 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. No enforcement will occur on Sundays. These hours will be effective Wednesday, June 16 to Friday, July 16 as the city continues to evaluate the overall program.
- Booting and towing will resume. A vehicle may be subject to booting or towing if illegally parked (i.e. tow zone, handicap zone, fire hydrant) or if there are three or more delinquent parking citations outstanding.

The number of formerly free parking spaces that they have converted is ridiculous, especially in L5P. There are no free spots on the streets at all in that area now. I hope the city is happy that businesses will suffer because customers don’t want to pay ridiculous parking rates or deal with those maddening machines
Arrrgh! We get shafted again by our elected officials!
1) How much are these changes in the sweetheart contract going to cost the taxpayers?
2) Why is the Milwaukee company allowed to make any money from parking tickets?
3) What does the company that lost the airport contract know about parking tickets?
4) Why do I bother asking questions that will never be answered?
I’ve moved to the ‘burbs, but I used to live in town. I love coming in to enjoy great restaurants, the High, the symphony, and other attractions, but one thing I don’t miss is the ITP parking hassles. Are things getting worse, rather than better? I hate to admit it, but it is a mild deterrent.
