Dali lithographs donated to Oglethorpe

Submitted by collin on Saturday, 15 May 2010One Comment

Salvador DaliThe Oglethorpe University Museum of Art has received a gift of 14 original Salvador Dali large lithographs (including 12 four-color prints) by an anonymous corporate donor. These lithographs by the surrealist Spanish master are now part of OUMA’s permanent collection and will be exhibited Sunday, July 11 – Sunday, Sept. 5. This collection of prints has never before been exhibited to the public.

One of the greatest surrealist masters of the 20th century, Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a classically trained artist best known for his dreamlike and fanciful images. His eccentric self promotion drew attention to his work and sometimes also distracted from it.

OUMA is located on the campus of Oglethorpe University at 4484 Peachtree Street, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30319, on the third floor of the Weltner Library. For a map, directions, or additional information, call 404-364-8555 or visit museum.oglethorpe.edu.

Reproductions of Dali’s gouache paintings are not lithographs.

It is very troubling when the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art misrepresents, with or without intent, reproduction/posters as original works of visual art.
