What’s Good: Gato Bizco Café

What's Good log0By Elijah Kirkland-Andrews

Gato Bizco Café is a breakfast joint with a Southwestern flavor across the street from Flying Biscuit in Candler Park. While not really a secret, there aren’t nearly as many people standing outside during a Sunday morning as there are at Flying Biscuit, though Gato has considerably less seats. The décor inside is cat themed; with Felix the Cat clocks and cat pictures adorn the walls.

The bacon here is fabulous. Crunchy enough but very juicy, you will smell like it when you leave. They will also make any one of their omelets in to a “omelette-a-dilla” which is the ingredients of the omelet stuffed in a quesadilla. The sweet potato pancakes are not as fluffy as ones you would find at Java Jive, but that’s okay because the powerful flavor is what really matters. The huevos rancheros come in giant servings, as most of the dishes here, and are delicious. They’ve really perfected the art of egg-cooking here.

Elijah AndrewsMy favorite dish, however, is not on the breakfast menu, though you can get it any time of the day. In typical Elijah fashion, I order the patty melt for brunch. The sandwich has a massive patty and is doused with a sweet “Russian Sauce.” Sitting across the street from one of Atlanta’s notoriously longest lines, it’s surprising that Gato Bizco doesn’t have lines just as long.

Gato Bizco is at 1660 McLendon Ave. (404) 371-0889.

I’ve been hearing about this place, but now I know I must check it out if for no other reason than to get some Bacon! I love me a good piece (or 4) of bacon. Yum!

Great article and insight. Its important to venture out to new places and create new culinary destinations. There are gems out there in the industry with service and food that surpasses some of the trendy spots. Keep us up on what were missing out on in ATL Elijah!
