Decatur Old House Fair, March 6

CIty of DecaturOn Saturday, March 6, the City of Decatur, in partnership with the DeKalb History Center and the Decatur Preservation Alliance will present the Decatur Old House Fair, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The day-long event will be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 130 Clairemont Ave. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased on the website at www.DecaturOldHouseFair.com.

There will be seminars showcasing new ideas, materials, and techniques for rehabilitating, furnishing and maintaining old homes. In addition, visitors can shop a large exhibit of retailers, suppliers, and other professionals in home improvement, historic preservation, renovation, interior furnishings and construction.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn how to restore original windows, improve energy efficiency, develop a maintenance plan, research old-house history, earn tax incentives for certified rehabilitation, and more, through seminars and hands-on demonstrations.

The seminar topics will include: Wood Window Repair and Maintenance, Maintenance Plans for Old Houses, Design Strategies for Additions and New Construction in Historic Neighborhoods, “Energy Efficiency in Old Houses, Greening’ Your Old House, Historic Landscapes, Hiring a Contractor and many more.

Experts and speakers will be on hand, including Jane Powell, noted author of the books Bungalow Kitchen and Bungalow Interior: Details and Bungalow Bathrooms, who will be the guest lecturer and will be signing copies of her books which will be available for purchase at the event.
