Marci B. Reed has been named the newest executive director of the American Institute of Architects, Georgia.  Reed’s responsibilities within the organization will include overseeing efforts to increase public awareness of architecture and the role that architects play in the built and planned environment, as well as overseeing government affairs to monitor state legislature and regulatory activities to promote and enhance the profession of architecture.  Reed is a graduate of Georgia State University and served as AIA Atlanta’s first executive director from 1999 until 2000.www.AIAGeorgia.org

WoodWorks Southeast has begun accepting nominations for the 2010 Wood Design Awards. Applications will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 8, at which time winners will be selected in eight categories including Institutional Wood Design, Commercial Wood Design, Green Building, Interior Beauty of Wood, Multi-family Wood Design, Traditional Use of Wood, Wood Behind the Walls, and Engineering.  The winners will be announced during a ceremony at the Atlanta Wood Solutions Fair on Feb. 16 at the Cobb Galleria Center. www.WoodWorks.org/WoodDesignShowcase.
