The Georgia Small Farms Disaster Relief Fund (formerly the Flooded Farmer Fund), administered by Slow Food Atlanta, has distributed more than $50,000 to local, family farms in the state that were hard hit this fall by the heavy flooding. Faced with the devastation of crops, livestock and infrastructure, the relief funds provided farm-saving support in the face of crisis. Ten small farms received support, including: Bray Family Farms, Cane Creek Farm, Davis Farms, Hope’s Garden, Love is Love Farm, A&J Farms and TaylOrganics.

Many generous individuals, businesses, and organizations contributed to Fund and helped to provide desperately needed support, including: Whole Foods, Field of Greens, Georgia Organics, Rosebud Restaurant in Morningside, The Mendez Foundation, The Cathedral of St. Philip and the Peachtree Road Farmers’ Market, Les Dames d’Escoffier, and the Unitarian Universalist Church.

In recognition of the many natural disaster challenges that small, local farmers face, Slow Food Atlanta has taken this opportunity to establish an ongoing disaster relief fund for small, sustainable farmers in Georgia who are affected by natural disasters. The new Georgia Small Farms Disaster Relief Fund will reach local farmers to help their recovery and continued contributions to our local food system.
