Labor Day weekend is upon us, which means there’s activities galore. Narrowing down our High Five list of weekend events wasn’t easy, but we think you’ll find something to tickle your fancy. Set your phasers on stun…here we go.
1. Read all about it: The annual Decatur Book Festival returns tomorrow through Sunday with hundreds of authors and thousands of literature lovers descending on the city for readings, workshops and more. This year’s keynote speaker is Jonathan Franzen, who will launch his new novel, Freedom, at the festival. Franzen, who won the National Book Award for The Corrections and spurned Oprah’s offer to be part of her book club, will speak at 8p.m. tomorrow night at Agnes Scott’s Presser Hall.
2. Is that a lightsaber in your pocket… Sci-fi and fantasy lovers of all ages will be freaking and geeking all weekend as the 24th annual Dragon*Con touches down in Atlanta with hundreds of authors, film/tv stars and comic book illustrators. You can meet Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers), Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek), Brandon Routh (Superman), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca from Star Wars) and Barbara Eden (Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie).
